Can I Eat Sweets While Following A Keto Diet?
If you follow the ketogenic diet, chances are you’ve asked yourself this question several times. Even though it is difficult to control those sugar cravings, and find alternatives that taste just as good, it CAN be possible to enjoy sweet treats on a keto diet. You just need to find alternatives that work for you!
What is The Keto Diet?
The Keto Diet has been gaining popularity in recent years, and this could be because of how effective it is when it comes to showing results. Ketosis is a state your body reaches when it is running low on carbs. Instead of relying on carbs for energy, it then dips into your body’s stored fats in order to keep you going.
Studies have shown that maintaining your body at ketosis makes it burn through fat much faster, ultimately resulting in weight loss. Consuming added sugars like candy, soft drinks, desserts on a diet like this, is a big no-no. Your body needs to have a deficit of carbs and sugars, so that it can rely on your fat reserves and burn them faster.
Let’s get into why we crave sugar so much. Getting sugar cravings could be symptomatic of chronic stress, anxiety, depriving yourself of filling meals, and not eating at regular intervals. It helps to know why we have sweet tooths that cause such strong cravings - especially when added sugar is known to be quite unhealthy. Being on a keto diet can be challenging at first, but it will train your body to want less sugar!
But, there is a whole world of keto friendly sweets that you can allow yourself to indulge in! We recommend these even if you don’t follow a keto diet, they’re that good. After all, it wouldn’t hurt to cut back on added sugars that are known to have adverse effects on our health anyway.
